Bonner Eye Introduces the Diopsys NOVA Vision Testing System
Bonner Eye is pleased to announce the addition of the Diopsys® NOVA Vision Testing System to their clinic. This new testing system provides cutting-edge technology and information to help professionals detect disorders like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other neuro-visual disorders earlier than ever before. This new technology is break-through in the world of vision care.
As we have talked about in the past, glaucoma is a serious eye condition worldwide. Prevent Blindness America says that glaucoma, the second leading cause of blindness, is sometimes referred to as the “sneak thief of sight” because about fifty percent of all patients who have it are unaware. This is because such optic nerve disorders are asymptomatic, meaning that symptoms do not appear until the condition has progressed into later stages of the disease. Also, detection is limited because diagnosis and management of these disorders are often based on visual field tests. These structural tests do not have the best ability to detect disease early on.
This is the beauty of the new Diopsys® NOVA-VEP and NOVA-ERG vision tests. Amazingly, these tests allow ophthalmologists to assess vision disorders often earlier than traditional vision tests. Diopsys tests use electrical responses of both entire vision systems and just retinas, along with special software, to help determine nerve function and to evaluate the entire vision system. Glaucoma and macular degeneration are two of the disorders that can now be detected much earlier. For even more proactive care, eye care professionals may use VEP and ERG alongside their traditional testing methods to better provide for their patients.
So eye patients and doctors alike rejoice for the ability of early detection! We are proud to offer our patients this technology.
