Employee Spotlight: Dr. Michael Young, OD

Dr. Young joined Bonner Eye Clinic (BEC) in 2014 and serves our patients for the following eye care needs: primary care, specialty contact lenses, dry eye management, urgent care, ocular disease, and surgery management. “It’s really rewarding to work with the great team of people at BEC. I think we take great care of our patients. I enjoy all aspects of eye care but find the challenges of medical eye care to be most interesting.”

Dr. Young went to undergrad school at St. John’s University (MN), and then onto optometry school at Pacific University, Oregon. He’s worked in a few different optometry settings: the first position he held out of school was at a LensCrafters in Oahu, HI, and then a private optometry practice in Minneapolis.

He is originally from Grand Rapids, MN, and enjoys many of the outdoor activities our area has to offer. Depending on the season, he’s usually doing something outside. In the summer he’s usually on the lakes, and many times paddling a canoe, but can also be found peddling the mountain bike trails at Tioga and Chisholm. He grew up taking many canoe trips with family and friends to the BWCAW and Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario. Fishing and hunting are an integral part of life in northern MN, and he especially enjoys hunting in the fall. He has a dog named Kato who’s an English Setter – full of energy and a great upland bird pointer. He also enjoys XC skiing and surfing Lake Superior. He started surfing in 2005 while on a study abroad semester in South Africa. He enjoys traveling, and whenever possible it’s usually a warm place with good food and surf.
