Workplace Eye Wellness Month

From working at a construction site to sitting in front of a computer from 9-5 each day, every type of job brings with it the potential for vision injuries and problems. Throughout the month of March, we have been sharing tips on our Facebook page to bring awareness to Workplace Eye Wellness Month. We’ve combined them here for you in one, easy to find place:

  1. Limit your time on the computer. A common issue experienced by office workers is eye strain. Extended periods of time in front of a computer screen can cause issues like headaches and eye fatigue. To help combat this, try the 20-20-20 rule: take a break every 20 minutes and look at any object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
  2. One of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce workplace eye injuries is to wear proper safety glasses. In fact, 90% of workplace eye injuries could be avoided if safety eyewear is used effectively! While safety eyewear will vary depending on the type of work being done, the general rule to follow should be if you’re passing through a work site, wear protective eye gear!
  3. To combat digital eye strain, eye ergonomics like sitting an arm’s length away from your computer, using artificial tears and a humidifier or adjusting the light of the room you are in can all help!
  4. An important step any employee can take to preserve their eyesight is to have an annual eye exam. Eye exams help evaluate potential unseen injuries to the eye, as well as look for signs of serious eye conditions like glaucoma and cataracts.
