Improve Your Reading Vision
Starting around age 40, some people think they are developing farsightedness because up close images start becoming increasingly blurry. Actually, this is often the condition of presbyopia. Instead of a refractive error, this condition is caused when the lens of the eye loses its flexibility. This makes it harder to focus on menus, labels, books, etc., unless you have reading glasses or bifocals.
Reading glasses and bifocals are effective in helping you see things up close. However, many people don’t like the stigma attached with these vision aids – they can make you look older than you feel – especially if you have to use them in social situations.
To help improve reading vision, Dr. Mariano offers several treatment options:
- Monovision LASIK: one eye is treated for distance vision and one eye is treated for up-close vision so you have a full range of vision
- Refractive Lens Exchange (Clear Lens Exchange): your natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens implant that is able to give you distant, near and intermediate vision
After these treatments, most patients no longer need readers!
